What is USAv3?

USAv3 is a peaceful, democratic movement to rewrite the U.S. Constitution for the 21st century, bringing about the third iteration of our Union. Our goal is to organize, broadcast, and livestream a Constitutional Convention. We want leading experts and the American People to work together to design a new system of government capable of handling this era’s challenges: technological disruption, ecological crisis, economic inequality, and cultural division, among others.

Why do we need a new Constitution?

The U.S. Constitution was written in 1787 for a different world, one of sails, slaves, and horses. We live in a world of social media, supercomputers, and satellites, an age of complexity unimaginable to our founding fathers. Amendments can patch problems, but they cannot fix a foundation that is fundamentally unsound. Just as Americans once replaced the Articles of Confederation with the Constitution, we now need another national rebirth; one that conserves our freedoms, restores our democracy, and adapts our government to the realities and challenges of today. Until we fix our government’s foundation, our environment, economy, and social unity will continue deteriorating because the government will continue to regulate according to financial interests.

Could this be considered treason?

No. Treason, under the U.S. Constitution, is narrowly defined as levying war against the United States or giving aid and comfort to its enemies. This movement does neither. To call it treason would be to deny the very principle America was founded on: that government derives its legitimacy from the consent of the governed. We are not betraying the Union, we are working to save it from division and disintegration.

How is this different from a typical revolution?

This is a non-violent, digital, democratic, diplomatic revolutionary movement, one fueled by words, ideas, memes, and dreams instead of one made of bullets and bombs. The entire point of this movement is to communicate the unacceptable state of our civilization and use the immense connective power of the internet to prevent widespread violence, corruption, chaos, and tyranny.

Is this tied to a political party or ideology?

This movement is not tied to either major political party, nor any of the ideologies of the past (capitalism, communism, socialism, anarchism, etc.). Rather, this movement seeks to create an entirely new ideology based on the reality of the present day and the lessons of the past. We seek to create the most efficient, equitable civilization possible, one which allows every citizen the opportunity to live their lives as freely as possible.  Our ideology is maximum freedom.

What if people disagree?

People will inevitably disagree; no idea, person, or movement is perfect. That is why it is vitally important that you express exactly why you disagree with any facet of this movement. Doing so allows us to gather data and opinions that make our next government as perfect as possible. We will start by using the forum at /r/USAv3 to gather and structure public feedback. Make a post! Drop a comment. Nominate an individual delegate. Upvote or downvote anything. But above all: use your agency!

How can I get involved right now?

Right now, you can read about why this movement is necessary and why we believe our government should be structured a certain way. As mentioned earlier, expressing any strong opinions you have regarding any part of this idea is perhaps the most important thing you can contribute.

Beyond developing a fuller understanding of the literature, you can help share and spread this idea. We want to get as many people talking about this idea as possible in order to maximize the chances of a peaceful transfer of power. Join our community subreddit or follow us on Instagram. Contributing to the virality of this movement is the second most helpful thing you can do.

Beyond digital participation and virality, you can donate to a fund designed to support the individual tasked with traveling around the country to personally recruit the proposed delegates.
